Basket making is one of humanity’s oldest crafts, with evidence dating back over 10,000 years to ancient civilizations across the globe. Early baskets, often woven from natural materials like reeds, grasses, and tree bark, were essential for everyday tasks—carrying goods, storing food, and even building structures. Indigenous cultures, such as Native American tribes, perfected techniques using Black Ash, cedar, and other local resources, creating both functional and ceremonial pieces that reflected their deep connection to nature. In Europe, basketry evolved alongside agriculture, with willow and oak commonly used. Over centuries, basket making spread and adapted, becoming both an art form and a practical skill, with regional styles and techniques passed down through generations. Today, it remains a cherished craft, blending tradition with modern creativity.
